  The Great Puzzle Learning experience meets above criteria since students analyze a theory and the elements that support or discredit the theory of Alfred Wegoner. They prove or disprove an hypothesis and evaluate their conclusion. It supports the standards of scientific inquiry in that the explanation of a natural phenomenon is developed in a creative process. All the students are actively engages in the process.
  Student-made Web Pages...Show Off Their Work! Designed to teach students how to create a web page using Netscape Communicator's Composer and can be used by students in grades 3-12 to present their projects or research on their school's web page. Designed to be taught in a lab setting and will be used by the technology teacher in coordination with the classroom teacher.
  Linear Programming This learning unit fits into a unit on solving systems of equations and inequalities at the junior or senior level. Students will need to know how to graph equations, shade inequalities, work with functions, and how to operate a graphing calculator.
  The Periodic Table 11th grade Chemistry students will understand and gain knowledge of history & development of the table; properties of elements: covalent atomic radius; ionic radius; metals;nonmetals; metalloids; chemistry of a group: including groups: 1 and 2; 15 and 16; 17; 18; transition elements; and trends in a period; atomic #/radius, ionization,electronegavitity,metal/noblegas, oxidation states. Students will know and understand how to use New York State Reference Tables; Table K, Table P.
  Parliamentary Procedure This lesson will allow the student to participate in a meeting that is run using parliamentary procedure.
  Creating a Web Page The focus of this unit is to create a web page.
  Area, Perimeter and Volume: from rectangles to box Students will design and build a pizza box from a single piece of cardboard. They will analyze its surface area and volume and justify why their design is the best for their product.
  Hero Research Cont. Project continued.....The Hero Project is an opportunity for students to research and write a research paper about an abstract idea: the qualities and characteristics of a hero. The focus is on the idea of heroism rather than on a particular hero. The project includes an emphasis on using computers to do research, to help organize information, and to present information.

  Heat, Meat, Smelly Feet Essential Question: If organic compounds were not refined (naturally or synthetically) how would your life be affected and why? What are some possible future uses of organic compounds? What biological connections can you make with organic compounds?
  Yeas and Nays: Parilamentary Procedure Essential Questions: What internal structure enables officers of varied groups to conduct business in a consistent and orderly manner? Which international, national, local groups apply the principals of parliamentary procedure? What are the ingredients necessary for a smooth running meeting? What vocabulary is associated with parliamentary procedure? What are the established authorities on parliamentary procedure?
  Collecting Poems Tied to a Short Story Theme ESSENTIAL QUESTION: What literary techniques and elements must a poem possess to be able to compare/contrast it to another piece of literature?
  Powerpoint Presents: Poetry Builds students' knowledge of poetic devices, exercises library research skills. They work in collaborative pairs to prepare/present oral interpretation/analysis of poem, biographical information about poet, enhanced by Powerpoint presentation. Integration of English, library, and technology skills provides evidence of having achieved several NYS Learning Standards.   Design a Business Card (3.5 x 2 inches) The student experience is within the Business Education program and falls within the course of Business Analysis/Business Computer Applications as well as graphic arts. To successfully complete this experience, the students need to know the components of a good business card and should be to be able to run the business card portion of a software program.
  Motion of a Bouncing Ball The purpose of this learning experience is to help students see and understand the usefulness of derivatives as they are applied to motion.
  Exponential and Logarithmic Functions the Fun Way! This is a unit designed to help Course 3, or soon to be Math B, students discover Exponential and Logarithmic Functions using TI-Graphing Calculators and Calculator Based Rangers (CBR).
  Pi Plate Trig Essential Questions: What are the characteristics and importance of the polar coordinate system? What features of a polar coordinate system make it useful in today's world? How can points be located in a polar coordinate system? What is the difference between a unit of radian and a degree? What quadrants are trig functions positive? How can a pi plate be used to model trig functions?
  Yearbook The unit deals with the creation of a yearbook on computer. It covers the business side of book sales, marketing, and producing the yearbook. It uses desktop publishing on two different types of software with much emphasis on graphics. Students must understand business contract, deadline to publishers, and the actual creation of a book.
  How to Have a Dream House, a Car and a Vacation Budget: How much money can you save by putting away $20 a week for fifty years at an interest rate of 5%? How can making minimum payments on a credit card affect the overall cost of the items purchased? What are the advantages and disadvantages of mortgages that last 10, 20 or 30 years? What is the difference between taking a loan from a bank or using "rent to own" credit? Can you invest the money that you have for a down payment some other way to help your regular budget?
  You are the Star! The purpose of this learning experience is to give the students the opportunity to be a participant of an online course as well as the tools to use a digital camera.
  Up and Down We Go This unit was written to combine the Regents Physics syllabus and the New York State learning standards with the use of technology. The goal of this unit is to have students actively involved in the learning process with the aid of group and individual learning experiences. This is done with the students integrating, extending, refining knowledge with the aid of lecture, mathematical problems, internet links, pictographs, CD-ROMs, writing activities, comparison activity, and a Projectile motion lab. The culminating activity is one in which the students will have the opportunity to hit the teacher with a water balloon. All students find a unique and stimulating experience.
  Come On Baby Light My Fire Students will be able to diagnose and repair ignition systems pertaining to Recreation and Outdoor Power Equipment(ROPE).
  What's Growing at the Tips of Your Fingers - In ad This experience creates a learning environment that allows students to connect the worlds of laboratory microbiology and health care infection control. Its purpose is to enhance the awareness that science is an integral part of the students' career technical education program.
  Haircutting The students will have a better understanding of haircutting terminology, rules, tools, and techniques.
  Basic Roof Framing Why does the geographical area influence the design of a roof? How do we determine the length and dimensional size of a Roof Rafter? What other information can we obtain by understanding the mathematics involved in a roof system?
  Water Resources Students learn characteristics that affect the quality of water in their environment. This includes components of water, natural cycles, water pollution, testing procedures, and developing presentations of their findings.
  Web Page Construction- 3 Easy Ways Students will learn to make web-pages by using a template found on the Internet.
  Bridge Design This learning experience is integrated into Mohawk Central Schools Mathematics Course II curriculum in the laboratory setting. Students having developed a physical model using geometric concepts will use the Interactive Physics program to redesign or improve their designs. Additional components include a demonstration of computer skills, writing skills, and interpersonal skills.
  Data Analysis Essential Question/Data Analysis: How can graphs be used in almost every aspect of society to make us a more efficient, productive, and informed society?
  Info Access in the Library for Electronic Resource Library Reference, Research: Information technology is used to retrieve, process, and communicate information and as a tool to enhance learning.

  Author Brochures The purpose of this experience is for students to gain better exposure to authors of literary works. This will be achieved through construction of a visually appealing tri-fold author brochure using Microsoft Publisher and Internet research.
  Work-Power-Energy Essential Questions: When is work done on an object? What is the difference between potential and kinetic energy? How are work, power and energy related? How can the Law of conservation of energy be applied to a given situation?
  Spectra of Elements and Compounds The student will explore the electromagnetic spectrum and the spectra of various elements and compounds
  Wave Theory: Making Sense Out of Sound Physics: Energy
  Banking Students will independently set up their own bank account at the bank of their choice. Students will pick one of the following essential questions and write a five paragraph essay answering the question. They will include this in their presentation.
  Career Exploration/Job Shadowing This unit is designed to guide students in making career decisions. They will begin by examining their interests, matching their interests to a career, exploring how to attain that career and finally job shadowing a person in that occupation.

  Birds of the Northeast - An Environmental Unit Learning about the environment is paramount if mankind is to survive on the planet earth. The efficient use of resources and the ability to co exist with the other inhabitants of the planet is essential. The effects of human existence on other species, such as birds often indicate how well we are doing. We must all discover what each of us can do to become part of the evolution of humankind and the evolution of the planet. What will we leave behind? A major theme behind this unit is the understanding and appreciation of the other species of plants and animals that we share this planet with. This is done in an effort to help us, and students, better understand ourselves, themselves, and therefor live a happy and fulfilling life. The only thing we really have is time.
  Element Internet Search The purpose of this experience is to introduce students to the use of the Internet to search for scientific information. The acquisition of needed information is crucial in science since the information is often needed to complete calculations. Research is an important step in the Scientific Method that is used throughout science.
  Calculating & Graphing Using a Spreadsheet Elaborate on basic scientific and personal explanations of natural phenomena, and develop extended visual models and mathematical formulations to represent their thinking. Work toward clarifying points of agreement and disagreement. Use various means of representing and organizing observations and insightfully interpret the organized data.

  Effects of Temperature Deviation on Climate How does technology (the Internet) assist in data gathering? What is the impact of a small or large standard deviation in temperature on the city’s climate? How do temperature and climate effect the culture of the city? How would the city be different if there was no deviation in temperature and it was always 75 degrees or 35 degrees? How would the city be different if there was a large temperature deviation and the temperature was always changing and unpredictable?
  Alphabet Soup In what way have the elements influenced our society? Where else do we use tables to help us organize information?
  Financial Management for Office Technology This unit is used to incorporate the 3rd math credit into Office Technology. Technology concepts, as well as math concepts are being used to accomplish this. The knowledge of computer programs is vital for office technology students. This unit will show the usefulness of different programs in their everyday life, inside and outside the office.
  Styles of Salon Operations and Technology (This experience works in conjunction with "Salon Demographics and Design" unit already posted on Title 3 web site.) This experience is used to incorporate vocational applied math & technology into the Cosmetology program in conjunction with the New York State standards. This Power Point Presentation aids the students in planning to design and operate a salon.
  SpiralGraph !?* Using graphing programs to analyze parametric changes to equations in polar-form. Understanding problems associated with use of digital tools to plot analog functions.
  Acids and Bases This unit was written to combine the Regents Chemistry syllabus, NYS Standards, and the use of technology. The concepts of acids, bases and pH were introduced with demonstrations and were further explored using the MPLI (Multi Purpose Lab Interface) system with a pH probe. All lab reports were done using Microsoft Word. The unit culminated with the students creating their own set of color change markers. The text used was Modern Chemistry, by Metcalfe, Williams, & Castka, Holt, Rinehart, & Winston Publishing, but any high school chemistry text could be easily adapted.
  Terrestrial Biomes: Who's for Dinner As part of a biome unit students will have a basic understanding of the life systems existing within different biomes. Students will need to know what a food chain is, how it functions, primary and secondary consumers, and how to access the Internet.
  Celebrate the Arts Advertising Design Class, students are expected to complete assignments using different mediums, and will understand the roles a person in the Advertising Field has, includes meeting deadlines, being creative, working toward a specific goal and presenting completed projects in a professional manner. Students are upperclassmen, most have had some art courses and been introduced to the basics. Assignments are challenging, but allow students to succeed and see personal growth, allows students to create an Advertising Campaign in which they are able to support the arts program, creating T-shirts, designing posters, billboards, and videotaping commercials created from original storyboards. Theme of this campaign is "Celebrate the Arts."
